I don't know Hot Pink, your prospects of receiving a serious answer from me seem dim, I'll try but... You know... level 1 user 19 answers...Also this question is stupid. You are either religious or not, you don't become religious all of a sudden during Ramazan. Yes some Turks pray, yes some Turks fast and yes some Turks read the Kur'an. Why shouldn't they? Now to what conclusion does your innocent question brings us to? That Turks and Arabs are undeniably similar? Now that's supposed to irritate us right? Let me show you my irritation, I protest this question and throw you a virtual tomato.

I have lived all my life in Turkey, except for short time visits abroad. I really haven't noticed anything like that. If Turks were like Arabs, then the government itself would not have had breweries, and wouldn't sell its products during that month (see: Yeni raki). Apparently, everything's normal. If you do not practice a certain religion, or a certain tradition, you are free to do so. Nobody asks anyone why s/he is eating/drinking during the day. All shops, restaurants, cafes are open and to Arab's surprise, they have a lot of Turkish customers. I don't see any difference other than three things and none of them are ultra orthodox, instead all are just Turkish traditions: -Drums before the dawn. -Just before the fasting ends, there are long lines in markets and bakeries for pita bread -There are more TV programs on religion, unlike the other months. Could you kindly give us some ultra-orthodox, Arab aspects that have attracted your attention because I don't seem to find any?

No..Liberal can have religion too and so they do what their belief tells them in that month. I think it's more religious that liberal Christians go to church every Sunday.
