My friend Alicia's mother, who previously lived in the US, had been living in turkey for ten years by the time she was born. Alicia's dad was Turkish, and Alicia lived in Turkey for the first ten years of her life. She came back to America with her mother in 2,000. Would she need to apply for U.S citizenship, or would she already be a dual citizen of both Turkey and America?

Since you friend is an American citizen she can throw his Turkish citizenship away. I sure would! Seriously though you do not state whether or not her Mother was an American. If she was than every child she has is an American period. You are a American if either of your two parents are. That is why we are stuck with the President we have now!

If she was a US citizen, that would have been determined when she either applied for a visa or US passport to travel to the US. If the mother was a US citizen the child may have had derivative US citizenship. Information on the mother's citizenship and the document (passport/visa) used by the child would lead to a better response.

It depends. Was Alicia's mom a US Citizen when she was living here? If so, yes she can get citizenship. If she was anything but a citizen of the US, she doesn't have US Citizenship

If Alicia's mom had lived in the US as a citizen for at least five years, including two after the age of 14, then Alicia could derive US citizenship through her mother.
