Of course, you would probably either be sharing an apartment with someone or living in the poorer regions of town. You would also probably want to do your shopping for food at the bazaar where prices are artificially kept low for the poor class to do their shopping. You can find good deals there and you should also haggle for prices, it's very different than most western countries. It's customary to actually barter with the shop keeper over the price. For your entertainment you would probably want to keep to a low budget option that is extremely popular among all economic ranges of people in turkey. They have this game called "Tavla" (It's just backgammon). Tavla is the national game of Turkey and you can't go wrong learning it and playing it with Turks, sipping tea, yelling. It can be a lot of fun. This summer I was here in college but apparently no one that I really knew too well stayed so what I did a lot go to the hookah bar and loudly play Tavla (backgammon) all the while sipping tea. It's a great time and not really a hard game to pick up.
