I want to live AND work in Turkey

I want to live AND work in Turkey.?
I think it may be hard for me to get a company to sponsor me a work visa. I was planning on just saving some money and going there and hoping to find something eventually. I was planning on just renewing my tourist visa every 3 months. I want to bring my cat. Am I able to do this on a tourist visa? If not can I send my cat to a friend in Turkey as a present? Can I get a resident visa in Turkey without employment? also what would i do about health insurance once i move?

You can travel with you cat because I did it, getting your cat out if your cat happens to be a protected species is another story. But I'll bet yours isn't, so get your cat's vaccination records and find out the current requirements from the Turkish embassy in your home country and get on a plane with your cat and go. Renewing your tourist visa is easy but it is better to get a resident's permit. You need to put about $3000 in the bank and bring proof of this with all the correct forms to the Yabanciler Subesi of the police department once you get there. It is daunting but doable. Edit: Yes you can get a residence permit without a WORK PERMIT, if fact, it is much easier. You need to show that you can support yourself for the duration of the time you want to stay. So say you want to stay a year, then you need to prove that you have $3000 or $5000 in the bank to support yourself while you are there, if you want it can be a 6month permit or up to two years with the amount of money changing according to how long you want to stay. The amount is really low and you could never in fact live on that little but that is the requirement. It is best to get the information in person once you are there. Insurance???? I know nothing about insurance.

If you can't get a work visa there are two other options that I know of: You can live there under a tourist visa or a retired person visa. Both of them have problems. The tourist visa last for 90 days and then you have to exit the country and come back in, paying for a new visa ($20 if American, not sure what other countries cost). You can go and come back in the same day but you do have to make the trek out of the country and back in. It's a lot of fun for awhile, you can see the beautiful islands off of Turkey's coast, but it can be time consuming and expensive. It is my understanding that a retired person visa is not based on age but on the amount of money you have in the bank. If you can proof you have a certain amount of money (not sure the amount) you can get that visa. (I just reread ithinkiatetoomuch's answer, that may be the same thing.) Concerning health care, it is a great deal cheaper than doctors in American. Again, I don't know where you are coming from so I don't know what you are used to, but doctors and hospitals are very reasonable and you wouldn't necessarily need insurance. You would likely just be able to pay for them out of your pocket. Also, prescriptions are cheap as well and you can go to a pharmacy (eczanesi - sp?) and pick up whatever you need.
