does anybody know if its safe to live in the Southeastern Anatolian region of Turkey?
My husband would love to live in that part of Turkey and was reading up on this thing called the "Gap project". They are damming up water, making the soil rich ect. Just wondering if its safe living that way being so close to pretty dangerous countries.

yes its safe but you need a living visa other than that you an only stay for up to 6 months

There are generally rural areas, so you may get bored and it might be dangerous depending on which city you are supposed to move. More closer to the board, more dangerous it is.

If you are a Westerner then you need to be made aware of the dangers in the south east.It is not like Istanbul or Ankara. The south east is vastly Kurdish occupied, and the PKKtarget tourist areas and foreigners if the opportunity arises. My advice would be to stick to Turkish areas.

It all depends on where in SA region you want to dwell. If you are thinking of buying some land, building a house there maybe and settling in rural area. I'd definitely say no, due to security concerns like some have mentioned above; PKK terrorism. But if you are planning on going to Diyarbakır or Gaziantep, the risk isn't that high. Actually one of my friends in college who works for P&G chose Diyarbakır over İzmir. But he will stay there only for 4 years. The last time I spoke to him (which was about a year ago) he said he was pretty happy there. So I don't think it would be a problem (in means of safety) if you keep in city center. But if you want to go see the countryside and mountains, you go there at your own risk.
