I'm Australian born but my parents are Turkish and I LOVE Turkey, I want to get out of aus I need a change and I now want to re-locate to Turkey. We own a house in Istanbul but alot of people say it's good to go for a holiday but not to live why? I'm wanting to crack into the fashion industry and this is what I do here I want to do fashion design up there as well - what do you think do you think I will be able to pursue my career in Turkey? If not in the fashion industry what would you suggest ? I would like to be well off there as I'm in a good situation here so I need to be able to do something that will give me a high income.

Its a beautiful country. But you must be ready financially

Go right ahead. Istanbul sounds like a very good place to be involved in the fashion industry, as it is a centre for commerce and culture in Eurasia (both Europe and Asia).

In my personal opinion, Istanbul is the place to be if you want to feel you are living in the centre of the world. But I have to warn you, this isn't as quiet and calm a place as the place you are living right now. Istanbul is swell, but it also has crowds, traffic, lots of competitors for every job you can think of, and all the obstacles that make life harder in big city. That said, as you haven't given many specifics about yourself (a good idea on the net), I can only say, broadly, that if you have completed your education, you can apply fo a job in a company involved in fashion industry. Else, you can get a higher education here, and THEN pass on to whichever area you would like to work in. In any case, good luck, and all the best wishes from me to you.

Great move honest. but you have to be financially sound to endure the setting up shop stage which could last anywhere between 6 months to a year. Now is a great time to buy property in Turkey. The market is soft and the Turkish Lira is week against the Dollar. You can get a real nice house in a moderate suburb of Istanbul for about 150k YTL. Good luck.

Fashion is a very good industry to be in in Istanbul. That said, you will probably have to struggle a lot before you make money. Be prepared for a long road.

Well I appreciate your desire to live in Istanbul. Istanbul is a very nice city, and you won't regret it. Fashion industry is pretty competitive in Turkey but there is always room for young . I hope you are fluent in Turkish, or at least able to communicate on a daily basis, as it is crucial. If not, you can always learn it in Istanbul. First of all, it is not easy to crack into anything without a proper education. And in Turkey, education system is kind of complicated. I would advise you to go to a fashion school either in Australia or somewhere else, and then come to Turkey. I don't know where you have a house in Istanbul, but if it's close to Nisantasi -I would say the fashion district of Ist- there is a very nice life waiting for you just around the corner. I hope you make the best decisions and have a happy life.
